FANTASY

Here's one of best Italo Disco cuts I've encountered since I starting getting into the stuff, P.A.A.C. Society's "Fantasy". The female vocal really works on this for me, but the 12" has an instrumental as well ... maybe I'll get around to ripping that at some point.

Right now I'm in the middle of working on an Italo mix for some of my friends as sort of a primer, so be on the lookout for that in the next day or two.

STOMPIN GROUNDS

K.C.Y.C. is just one of Kerri Chandler's many aliases. This is a great deep house classic I've been playing a lot lately.

DON'T TURN YOUR BACK

Dutch house production from '93 that has influences from breakbeat/hardcore and techno of that era. Really awesome record and the first from the now classic WORK label!

WIHAWIHTY

The deep house continues ... here's a great house edit/remix of Bill Withers' Who Is He (And What Is He to You) by Henrik Schwarz from a few years ago.

NEW DAY

Here's a deep house fav of mine. Under the alias Round One (2, 3, 4 and 5), electronic pioneers Basic Channel made some great deep house tracks. This is probably the most accessible of the lot, with a nice soulful vocal from Andy Caine. Pick this up on the Main Street records comp compiling everything the duo did in this series.

AM I GONNA BE THE ONE?

Record digging has pretty much dried up for me lately, but I did manage to pick up a dozen or so 12"s today. Here is the only thing worth mentioning (other than a local moder raer i'll post about someday). Am I Gonna Be The One is a classic Shep Pettibone-produced boogie track, and it jams. The OG appeared on the Destination Boogie compilation (awesome), so here's the Colorful Dub/Break for Dayze mix.

IN FLAGRANTI

The fine folks over at RVNG have just released the latest in their RVNG of the NRDS series, and #8 is from NYC freak-disco duo In Flagranti. The source material for these edits is pretty rock-oriented, something I'm definitely into. Here's the first track off the 12", credited to "Aural Yaw" but we can all recognize that sweet glam rock guitar riff....

Download: Aural Yaw (In Flagranti) - Send (192 KBPS)

And don't forget to head over to RVNG and pick up the 12" (while they last!) if you like what you hear.

IN THE HUNT

Omer Coleman, Jr. is a Kansas City local who also released an LP as Starship Commander Wooooo Wooooo titled Mastership (highly recommended). Here is his second of two singles, released under his own name. Great electro with honking horns and barking dogs!!! The amazing cover shot depicts Omer in front of the Plaza fountains holding a Korg keytar! (Too lazy to take a better pic right now).

JAM IT

Ripped this awhile ago and meant to post it but forgot somehow. HCRC, the same label that brought us Videeo, brings us X-25 band and the b-side to Black Hole Bop is slammin. Funky bass and vocoder for days...

OFF THE HILLTOP

Joey Beltram aka Code 6 brings us this fine techno track from 1990 on the Nu Groove label. It samples the classic Factory band Section 25's Looking From A Hilltop.

SHARE THE NIGHT

Been meaning to dig this one out and rip for awhile.... a great post-disco boogie track. The vocals are a bit cheese (which usually I really like) but the production on this one is so tight it kinda ruins it. Luckily they've provided us with the Breakdown Mix, which is far superior in every respect. The synth/piano combo here is great, with a killer bassline!!!
