Philadelphia-based duo Pink Skull will release their sophomore album on Tuesday through the wonderful label RVNG Intl. The record is a great combination of punk-funk (ala early DFA singles) with hints of krautrock and psychedelic influence thrown in for good measure. Chicken Dream Inside Egg is the contender for best dance jam on the album, but definitely has a lot of different things building up to keep things interesting. Listen for yourself, and don't forget to visit IGETRVNG.com to order the LP!
The deep house continues ... here's a great house edit/remix of Bill Withers' Who Is He (And What Is He to You) by Henrik Schwarz from a few years ago.
U-Turn over at One Day Later reminded me of how great those early Kelley Polar 12"s were, so here is my favorite track from his early days; The Rhythm Touch from the Recital EP.
I just recorded a short mix, one take, a little sloppy. Some of my new-ish favs, discovered over the summer. Hope you enjoy.
Tracklist: Space Fortress - Altair Nouveau The Heavens - Weird Tapes Cash Flow (Classixx Glass Bottom Dub Mix) - Major Lazer High Pressure Days (Rory Phillips Remix) - The Units Walter Neff - Matias Aguayo My Girls (Skinny Friedman Edit) - Animal Collective No Static - Bottin Mustache Love - RCMP Left Field Boogie - Free Disco I Will Come Back - Holy Ghost! Light Bulb - Soft Rocks Flexxy - Skatebard Time For W.C. - Pink Monkey Flower
Here's a great edit of the classic Dead Kennedys single California Über Alles, by Emynd. This is the "instrumental" - there's a Fatman Scoop-vocaled version as well, but doesn't really fit my usual vibe. This is just right. Check out Emynd and Crossfaded Bacon for the vocal.
I've been wanting to put together a Bobby O mix for awhile now, but Chrissy Murderbot beat me to it. Head over to his blog to check out his mix in two parts: the first celebrates Orlando's genius as a dancefloor innovator while the second showcases his uncanny ability to rip off popular sounds of time by juxtaposing the original with Orlando's take. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED LISTENING!
I'm still going to put together a mix of my own at some point, so be on the lookout cause I'm stockpiling some "O" heat!!!
Here's a deep house fav of mine. Under the alias Round One (2, 3, 4 and 5), electronic pioneers Basic Channel made some great deep house tracks. This is probably the most accessible of the lot, with a nice soulful vocal from Andy Caine. Pick this up on the Main Street records comp compiling everything the duo did in this series.
New jams from RCMP, a duo consisting of Apt One and Relative Q from Philadelphia. Ibiza, PA is a monster italo-house track from their new 12" on Flamin Hotz. Check out their promo mix for the release, consisting of all the material from the record. Awesome stuff!!!
Here's a top-notch edit of Nijel's Boogie gem Dance So Fine, brought to you by NYC's Casual Touch. Really great take on this vocoder-laden stomper just in time for the summer!
The fine folks over at RVNG will be releasing the seventh edition to their mix series this week, a release that features the duo of Bumrocks (we miss u) and Jasons Evans of Hey Convict!. The CD is accompanied by a 7" that includes a pair of cosmic edits from the mix. Don't forget to preorder on May 26th at igetrvng.com! Here's the Purple Brain edit of Barry Devorzon & Perry Botkin Jr.'s The Riot. Loving these drums.
I've been on the lookout for this record a while but never turned it up (not even on ebay). I finally came across a quality rip so I thought I'd share. This is the A side to Another Sunny Day's lone single of Caff Records, and shows then veering from their twee sensibilities with a bedroom synth pop OMD cover.
Record digging has pretty much dried up for me lately, but I did manage to pick up a dozen or so 12"s today. Here is the only thing worth mentioning (other than a local moder raer i'll post about someday). Am I Gonna Be The One is a classic Shep Pettibone-produced boogie track, and it jams. The OG appeared on the Destination Boogie compilation (awesome), so here's the Colorful Dub/Break for Dayze mix.
The fine folks over at RVNG have just released the latest in their RVNG of the NRDS series, and #8 is from NYC freak-disco duo In Flagranti. The source material for these edits is pretty rock-oriented, something I'm definitely into. Here's the first track off the 12", credited to "Aural Yaw" but we can all recognize that sweet glam rock guitar riff....
Download: Aural Yaw (In Flagranti) - Send (192 KBPS)
And don't forget to head over to RVNG and pick up the 12" (while they last!) if you like what you hear.
Here's a simple edit I did of Alan Parsons Project's Eye In the Sky including drums from LCD Soundsystem's Someone Great. Dropped this last night and mixed into the LCD track ... huge response! Sirius intro remains untouched.
Download: The Alan Parsons Project - Sirius/Eye In The Sky (Jacob's Someone Great Edit)
Omer Coleman, Jr. is a Kansas City local who also released an LP as Starship Commander Wooooo Wooooo titled Mastership (highly recommended). Here is his second of two singles, released under his own name. Great electro with honking horns and barking dogs!!! The amazing cover shot depicts Omer in front of the Plaza fountains holding a Korg keytar! (Too lazy to take a better pic right now).

Ripped this awhile ago and meant to post it but forgot somehow. HCRC, the same label that brought us Videeo, brings us X-25 band and the b-side to Black Hole Bop is slammin. Funky bass and vocoder for days...
Admittedly, I hadn't heard this track until Diplo used it in the Top Ranking mix, but its so good I wanted to play it. Here's a simple edit I made with some drums and added effects.
Joey Beltram aka Code 6 brings us this fine techno track from 1990 on the Nu Groove label. It samples the classic Factory band Section 25's Looking From A Hilltop.
