SHARE THE NIGHT

Been meaning to dig this one out and rip for awhile.... a great post-disco boogie track. The vocals are a bit cheese (which usually I really like) but the production on this one is so tight it kinda ruins it. Luckily they've provided us with the Breakdown Mix, which is far superior in every respect. The synth/piano combo here is great, with a killer bassline!!!

House For All

I've really been feeling some of this 90s-sample based house stuff recently. I'd gladly accept some more recommendations!

Here's a track off a Perscription Records 12" called The Grand Lodge Of Luxor, that has a bunch of other cool stuff, but for me this is the standout.

Classic Cuts

Lately I've been spending time with some of my old favorites, mainly this record:

This was rocked at probably every party I ever went to from 2001-2003. ADULT.'s early stuff has held up really well, and is definitely more memorable than their recent work. Although I wouldn't be mad if someone bought me the Decampment Trilogy...

and another art school party standard:

I would have killed to own this back then, and still would!! One of my all-time favorite songs...

enjoy:

p.s. if you want to buy some really cool records and help me be less poor, check out my ebay auctions.

NEW JAMS

Dam-Funk is an LA based collectro/dj/musician deep in the boogie scene. Stone's Throw recently put out his first release and its a monster. The b-side Galactic Fun is my favorite cut, and the title couldn't be more descriptive - a mid-tempo cosmic boogie jam with real lo-fi drum sounds and a killer synth line. Everything here is played by Dam, no loops. Not going to post up the tracks here - go buy it at TTL or Stone's Throw. Check out his inverview in Waxpoetics #28 to get schooled on some rare boogie/funk records, including this, one of my all time favs.

Kym - Give Me The Dance

I recently came up on a few sealed copies of this electro-disco bomb, hit me up if you're in need...

Sentimental - Dance Action

Found this record awhile back, and really don't know anything about it. Except that it's an awesome italo/hi-nrg track, apparently from Belgium, released on RCA in 1986. Sometimes the worst covers are the best scores.

Pink & Black - Sometimes I Wish

I don't know much about Pink & Black, but they're from the UK and this was released on Illuminated Records in 1984. I first heard this track on Michael Goodstien's highly reccomended show Choking On Cufflinks for WFMU radio. Took me awhile to track down the 12" for a decent price on ebay. Its a little beat up but sounds ok. This isn't from my copy. I'm going to start posting my own rips when I get a new needle, so for now enjoy the radio edit. The "Dreamdance USA" mix is the real jam.

Egg Hunt

New blog! Someone over at the hollerboard requested this a while back so I dug it up and remembered how awesome it is. The sole single by Egg Hunt on Dischord.

In the spring of 1986 Dischord founders Ian MacKaye and Jeff Nelson (both formerly of Minor Threat) went to England to visit, and were invited by Southern Records founder John Loader to do some recording while they were there. Southern was operated out of a row house in a neighborhood called Wood Green, and John had a 24-track studio set up in the garage. They recorded four songs, including "Me and You", something that the two had been playing together in the basement for many years, and "We All Fall Down", which was written by Ian for Embrace, but had been passed on by the band. Having had such a good time recording and hanging out in London, Ian and Jeff decided to release a single to mark the occasion. The name was chosen since it was recorded over Easter weekend. That summer they tried forming a new band called Egg Hunt with ex-members of Gray Matter, but it wasn't meant to be. The Southern session would turn out to be the last time the two would record music together.

BONUS: for the dance heads, here's EMYND's Think-Sampling, synth-infused disco edit of the Fugazi classic Long Division. What ian MacKye had to say:
